I spent 12 years in New York fashion as a marketing executive at Orient Craft Designs, designing and manufacturing for more than 40 brands, from Gap and Ann Taylor to Zara and Ralph Lauren. I watched them move from stores to online, and I saw which ones made it.
In 2015 I became the first Kazakh woman to bring Kazakh cuisine to Manhattan. A fire badly damaged my restaurant in 2018, and I rebuilt it with my own hands. When the city shut down in 2020, I opened 17 delivery kitchens across Manhattan in two weeks. Today FARIDA is on Wall Street and franchising.
In 2024 I received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award, and when reporters searched for me online, there was almost nothing. My businesses were visible. I wasn't.
